The last two years have been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride for Ben Simmons’ basketball career.
However, he might finally have things sway in his favor in the coming months. The Australia national basketball team is looking to bring him on board this summer.
“I think his mindset is getting healthy, getting in shape, and getting ready to play in this [World Cup],” Goorjian said via ESPN. “There were unfortunate circumstances [why he didn’t play at the Olympics], but I feel like he is going to make himself available.”
Simmons’ fate will depend solely on his health as he missed the last 23 games of the 2022-23 regular season and the playoffs due to a back injury. He is still rehabbing and recovering from the ailment.
Simmons has long desired to play for the Australian national team, where he could step in as the primary offensive factor. It’s an opportunity that he could use to reignite his basketball career which has taken a significant downturn since his playoff woes with the Philadelphia 76ers.

He struggled to find his footing with the Brooklyn Nets last season, averaging 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists. Simmons couldn’t stay on the floor due to his lackluster offensive production, which relegated him to the bench.
The 26-year-old is entering the fourth year of his five-year, $177.2 million contract that has no player options or team options for the final season. His play this upcoming campaign will change the outlook of his NBA future ahead.
