The speculation can come to an end concerning superstar forward Anthony Davis’ long-term future with the Los Angeles Lakers and whether the team wants to sign him to a long-term contract extension.
With Davis not exactly being the most dependable superstar in terms of staying healthy and available, the Lakers were thought to potentially consider not signing Davis to an extension, but that turned out not to be the case.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the team has agreed to a lucrative deal with Davis, which will pay him an average of $62 million a year.
Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis has agreed to a three-year, $186 million maximum contract extension, tying him to the franchise through 2028 for a total of $270 million, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN on Friday.
Davis’ deal is the richest annual contract extension in NBA history, averaging $62 million a season.
With Davis now in the fold through 2028, the Lakers have clearly gone all-in on Davis and LeBron James moving forward, which is risky for the storied franchise but also might be the right one.

The real question moving forward is if Davis can stay healthy over the course of an 82-game season and if he’ll be able to be just as productive and available in the NBA playoffs.
Only time will tell if the Lakers ultimately made the right move here, as it might be incredibly difficult to trade Davis’ contract if the team has to pivot in the other direction due to more injury issues.
