The New York Giants’ 2023 season just took another rough turn after quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending torn ACL.
Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed the speculation on Monday after an MRI.
“All I know is he has a torn ACL right now,” Daboll said via ESPN. “Obviously surgery will ensue, but I don’t know when that will be.”
The injury occurred likely on the final play of the first quarter of Sunday’s 30-6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Jones fell while getting sacked, which he spent the time in between the quarters to test his right knee.
He attempted to give it a go on the next play to start the second quarter but fell to the ground untouched. It had been an injury-plagued 2023 campaign for Jones, as he missed three straight games prior to playing against the Raiders.
He had struggled to find his footing this year, recording two touchdown passes and six interceptions in six games. His lack of production played a significant part in the Giants’ shortcoming, holding a 2-7 record heading into Week 11 action.

Beyond that, the Giants are tied to Jones for the foreseeable future after he inked a four-year, $160 million deal last offseason. He holds a $69.3 million dead-cap hit for the 2024 campaign, meaning he will likely be locked into the team through at least one more year.
The Giants could part ways with him after next season with a $22.2 million dead cap hit. Nonetheless, it appears Jones and New York are headed toward an uncertain future.
