The NFL power rankings after minicamp have arrived, and in the AFC, the Buffalo Bills are the favorites to reach the Super Bowl.
16. Houston Texans
The Texans are in a full-blown rebuild. The big question in Houston is whether second-year quarterback Davis Mills is the answer or merely a placeholder.
15. New York Jets
New York has gotten plenty of shine this offseason and rightfully so for its improvements. The problem is a great conference, an unproven quarterback and a brutal schedule.
14. Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville is a team to watch. The Jaguars revamped the entire organization over the past five months and could take a big step under new head coach Doug Pederson.
13. New England Patriots
New England simply doesn’t have the talent of the top contenders. The weapons are lackluster and the defense, after losing corner J.C. Jackson in free agency, is a serious question mark.
12. Pittsburgh Steelers
The defense will be solid for the Steelers and only a fool counts out head coach Mike Tomlin, but the offensive line is terrible and the quarterback situation is in flux.
11. Miami Dolphins
Miami is hoping for a big season, but it all rides on what you think of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. He has the weapons with receivers Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill, but is that enough?
10. Cleveland Browns
Impossible to say anything on the Browns until we have clarity on Deshaun Watson.
9. Tennessee Titans
Tennessee was the AFC’s top seed last season, but losing A.J. Brown and the rest of the conference leveling up is an issue for the Titans.
8. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders also made the playoffs last year and added edge rusher Chandler Jones and receiver Davante Adams. Yet the defense is very shaky on the back end and the division is brutal.
7. Indianapolis Colts
Indy did a nice job to upgrade from Carson Wentz to Matt Ryan despite having limited draft capital. The Colts should be a playoff team.
6. Denver Broncos
The biggest wild card in the AFC if not all of football. Denver could be great or mediocre, depending on the combination of quarterback Russell Wilson and first-time head coach Nathaniel Hackett.
5. Los Angeles Chargers
Can the Chargers finally win a big game? This will be the question we hear for months, because the talent is evident.
4. Baltimore Ravens
Don’t sleep on the Ravens, who were the most injured team in football last year and still started 7-2.
3. Cincinnati Bengals
The defending AFC champs bring back a great offense and underrated defense. Cincinnati should be right in the mix once more.
2. Kansas City Chiefs
If Kansas City’s defense can overcome youth and inexperience, the Chiefs can win it all. But that’s a huge, huge question.
1. Buffalo Bills
The Bills are the most complete team in the league. At this point, it’s time for Josh Allen and Co. to finally get past the Chiefs.
