If the Seattle Seahawks are willing to trade quarterback Russell WIlson, these five teams should have them on speed dial.
5. Washington Commanders
Washington has enough talent to roster a quality defense, and the weaponry is decent with receiver Terry McLaurin and running back Antonio Gibson. Yet the quarterback situation has long been a mess for the Commanders, with the last, true franchise quarterback being Joe Thiesmann in the mid-1980s. Wilson and head coach Ron Rivera would be a terrific tandem, and in the week NFC East, could vault Washington back to the top after falling off in 2021.
4. New York Giants
The Giants have made it clear they want to roll with Daniel Jones for at least one more season while trying to surround the youngster with an actual football team. That said, does first-year general manager Joe Schoen try to convince ownership about a move for Wilson should the moment present itself? New York has a pair of top-10 picks, certainly giving it a huge leg up over most if not all the potential competition in a pursuit for Wilson.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
This would not fit what the Steelers typically do. Pittsburgh has long been a franchise which exudes patience and builds through the draft, very rarely showcasing the propensity to dive into a sweepstakes. However, with Ben Roethlisberger having retired and the Steelers needing to upgrade at the quarterback spot, Wilson makes plenty of sense. And, for Wilson, this is an opportunity to play for another great coach in Mike Tomlin, and have both Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool as weapons.
2. Denver Broncos
If Aaron Rodgers doesn’t want out from the Green Bay Packers, Wilson ought to be the next choice. He’s still one of the best quarterbacks in the game and unlike Deshaun Watson, doesn’t have a no-trade clause to navigate or the ugly legal situation. Additionally, Denver general manager George Paton has the draft capital to make the move, holding multiple picks in the second and third rounds along with the Broncos’ first-round choice. There’s definitely potential for a deal here.
1. Philadelphia Eagles
No team has more to offer Seattle than the Eagles. Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman has three first-round picks along with a young quarterback in Jalen Hurts. The Seahawks could ask for a mix of those assets and likely feel good about the return, while the Eagles would be getting a future Hall of Fame quarterback.
